Mentoring Programs
Big Brothers Big Sisters Mentoring Program
Big Brothers Big Sisters offers a Community Based mentoring program. This program matches a volunteer with a child in a one-to-one match friendship. This match has a great impact on the life of the child and volunteer.
Community Based Mentoring
Volunteers in the community based program spend 2-4 hours each week with their Little Brother or Little Sister doing low-cost or no-cost activities together in the community. Big Brothers Big Sisters staff can assist with activity ideas and will support your match as needed. Matches are also invited to participate in group outings and community service projects. Because they will be transporting Littles to and from their activities, Bigs must have access to a reliable vehicle, have valid auto insurance, and have a valid driver's license. Within the Community Based Program, there are alternative volunteering options available.
Big Couples allow a married couple to be matched with a Little Brother. The Big Couple can meet with their Little Brother together or individually. The Big Couple option allows a couple to spend more time together and help a child, too. Some couples choose this option when they know that they cannot individually meet their time obligations to a child, but can if they work together. The child benefits because the couple models a healthy relationship.
High School Bigs must be at least 16 years old and must be a high school Junior or Senior. High School Bigs are matched with Little Brothers and Little Sisters ages 7-11. Volunteering with Big Brothers Big Sisters looks great on resumes and college applications! The child gets to learn about the challenges and benefits of being a responsible high-schooler.
Volunteering
There are several different ways to put a little magic in a child's life. From helping out around the office to becoming a Big to donating to serving as a Board Member, you can support our efforts to improve our community.
Become a Big
Becoming a Big Brother, Big Sister or Big Couple is about sharing simple activities with a child. These activities may magically become hallmark moments in his or her life. Perhaps an afternoon at a ball game. A first trip to the pool. A visit to the library. Even something as simple as a weekly walk in your neighborhood can have a positive impact on the life a child.
There is, however, one note of caution:
Don't be surprised if you end up
having the time of your life.
